Game on Morel's Hill (Gr... During an evening meeting of the Young Creative Workshop Encounters (held December 1971 in Elbląg, Poland), an argument divided the group of artists. Przemysław Kwiek suggested continuing the debate the following day through a conversation of “visual tactics” between two teams who each had 1.5m long sticks as well as white and red canvas. Each team watched as the other made a move, and fourteen were made in total over three hours. Documented through photographs and text, Kweik and Kulik presented this material as a narrated slideshow in the 1970s-80s, and in 2006 recreated this in the form of a digital video.

SKMP2 An “ironic visual reportage” of four artist projects at the L’Attico gallery in Rome, 1968. Patella infuses the work of the artists from the arte povera movement with touches of surrealism, as tinted monochromatic footage of these exhibitions/actions lends them a silent film aesthetic. The title refers to the last names of the main players: gallery owner Fabio Sargentini and artists Jannis Kounellis, Eliseo Mattiacci, Pino Pascali and Luca Maria Patella himself. Kounellis is shown using the gallery as a studio, dying bits of cloth among live animals; Mattiacci engages passerby in a happening on the city streets; Patella and Rosa Foschi are shown in a similar scenario to Terra Animata, with a flag performance in a landscape; and Pascali executes a bizarre ritual on the beach, covered to his neck in sand and later planting whole loaves of bread.

Gary Burton & Makoto Ozo... Renowned pianist Makoto Ozone and vibraphone maestro Gary Burton have collaborated on a number of occasions both live and in the studio. This concert from the Montreux Festival in 2002 corresponded with the release of their album "Virtuosi", which combines classical music duets with jazz improvisations to stunning effect. Corroded emulsion film, affected by a voice-event that recounts the ominous events that occurred at the beginning of May 2006 in San Salvador Atenco, when the government repression obscured the resistance voices of the people.

Borderhole Taking place on a mythical border area between Colombia and the United States, Borderhole investigates the relationship between North and South America through the lens of the American Dream and the illumination of multiple tensions in/around the border. The film explores imperialism, globalization through pop music, the gender mutant in an international context, and the choreography of women’s bodies in relation to sociopolitical and ecosystems.

During a press conference, Governor Javier Duarte de Ochoa announces an ominous “soliloquy” where he makes a sinister warning to journalists and the media of the State of Veracruz. Using the formal dimension of dubbing, as well as its associative, evocative, resonant and translating possibilities, this work explores through film the words of the ruler, establishing an asynchronous link and a time lag that puts on stage the grotesque expressionism of a governmental discursive delirium.

Four seasons

Terra animata Luca Maria Patella composed a series of performative actions by his wife/collaborator Rosa Foschi and playwright Claudio Meldolesi in a sparse landscape. Bodies, objects and natural features are shown from different perspectives and angles, proposing a sort of visual harmony within the silent film. Through geometry, texture, movement and stasis, Patella animates, creating a sense of communion with nature on a similar wavelength to Ana Mendieta’s actions, and with a stark difference to the comparative coldness and objectivity that the work of land artists of the contemporary era would reflect.
