Imaginary Geography Géographie imaginaire is a subjective report on a deliberatly non-documentary, i.e. imaginary journey. Pauline M’Barek’s video is based on intimate observations that she made during the preparations and traditional rites for her female cousin’s wedding in Tunisia.

The film represents passion of having the first camera as well as the very beginnings of photography and movie making in the Balkans. The production employed original costumes and photography equipment from the era.

In Search of The Real: S... "In Search of The Real: Glitches" (a simultaneous work, shown at Towner in the East Sussex Open 2014) was a response to a disenchantment with the current global social/political environment. A glitch is also referred to as a spike of electrical current. A spike seems more hopeful than a glitch. This video is one of a series which make use of found videos that originally imparted a philosophical or spiritual argument. It explores a state of continual flux, dissolving realities and poses questions of possibility. Does art facilitate a liberation of the mind? I am finding that the more liberated my thinking becomes the more is revealed that was previously un-seen/heard. "In Search of The Real: Spikes" is one of those oddities where effort and serendipity meet, colliding at 2min46 when the audio states of its own accord that it is an artist.

The Tower In this early work and collaboration between sisters Emily and Georgia, a figure journeys through a bewildering, menacing world. The film was created using a plethora of materials, including color-changing children’s markers and spray paint, and many of the specialized supplies, like cels, cel paint, and grease pencils, were leftovers from their parents’ famed Hubley Studios.

Faster than shadows Alessandra is 11 years old and she has an impulsive, expansive, noisy and bulimic way of exploring the world. She breaks all the rules: she dresses like a boy (but she prefers girls to boys), she eats like there’s no tomorrow, and she makes life impossible for her oh-so-perfect parents. This film is a tragicomic epic that tells the story of Ale’s transition from childhood to adolescence in the soulless suburbs of Turin in the ‘80s. Ale has to learn how to make the most of her resources, but in the process she also discovers that she is not quite so alone and misunderstood as she thinks.

I Swam in the Sea Last W... A symbolic and poetic video evoking a changing situation through female body swimming in the sea.

Octave Hubley created this short while at work on her first feature, The Toe Tactic, as a musical exploration of poetry featured in the film. Each frame was drawn on a single sheet of paper using watercolor pencil and ink, and the animation is accompanied by Yo La Tengo’s meditative score.
