Tired of the noise and madness of New York and the crushing conventions of late Eisenhower-era America, itinerant journalist Paul Kemp travels to the pristine island of Puerto Rico to write for a local San Juan newspaper run by the downtrodden editor Lotterman. Adopting the rum-soaked lifestyle of the late ‘50s version of Hemingway’s 'The Lost Generation', Paul soon becomes entangled with a very attractive American woman and her fiancée, a businessman involved in shady property development deals.  It is within this world that Kemp ultimately discovers his true voice as a writer and integrity as a man.

As the war wound to a close and violence persisted in the streets of Paris, the FLN and its supporters adopted the tactic of murdering French policemen in hopes of forcing a withdrawal. When French law enforcement retaliated by brutalizing Algerians and imposing a strict curfew, the FLN organizes a peaceful demonstration that drew over 11,000 supporters, resulting in an order from the Paris police chief to take brutal countermeasures. Told through the eyes of both French policemen as well as Algerian protestors, Tasma’s film attempts to get to the root of the tragedy by presenting both sides of the story.
The Singer
The Singer Alain Moreau sings for one of the few remaining dance-bands in Clermont-Ferrand. Though something of an idol amongst his female audience he has a melancholic awareness of the slow disappearance of that audience and of his advancing years. He is completely knocked off balance when he meets strikingly attractive and much younger businesswoman Marion. She seems distant and apparently otherwise involved but soon shows quiet signs of reciprocating his interest.

Grand Slammed
Grand Slammed Bronx Park East, a blue-collar neighborhood where dreams die hard, is the home of Mikey Roman, a sandlot baseball pitcher, struggling to keep his fastball under control as a local Major League Scout intently watches him hurl from the sandlot hill. On the sidelines, Mikey’s father, Bobby, a solitary man battling alcoholism and the drudgery of his life as a union construction worker grasps desperately onto one last hope: seeing his son in the Major Leagues. But after throwing a wild pitch that strikes a batter in the face in front of the scout, Mikey suddenly becomes disillusioned with baseball and on a fateful night resorts back to the neighborhood bar to seek comfort among his longtime friends. Soon violence and death erupt, shaking Mikey who turns back to Bobby only to find him drunk and despairing. With one last chance at pro ball, Mikey must contain his rage and focus on escaping his father's fate--because if he fails, he will almost certainly be doomed to repeat it.

Loners
Loners Robert works for a travel agency and helps to arrange scenes from the everyday lives of "ordinary" Czech families as an attraction for Japanese tourists. He also works as a kind of matchmaker and occasionally helps to put together some of his friends. He helps to separate his friend Hanka from Peter, an announcer for an independent radio station who tries to capture "real" life by recording the moments from "reality" and playing them over the air. Vesna, came to Prague from Macedonia because it is according to her the best place for UFOs to land, but her real reason for coming is somewhat different... Hanka is followed by the crazy Ondrej, until then a respected brain surgeon, and married with two kids. Through him she meets Jacob, who uses copious amounts of weed in order to be constructive in this gloomy world. On the other hand, this destroys his short-term memory - and he forgets that he already has a girlfriend...

Su mi ma sen, Love Chie Tanaka, playing herself, meets Huai-chung Wu, whom I presume is playing himself, after she loses her wallet. From that point on, the rest of the movie is about two restless and unhappy people spending the day together, falling in love, and learning to relate to each other without caring that they were strangers that morning.
