One-Way Street
One-Way Street Erez Pery, an Israeli filmmaker living in downtown Manhattan, observes the street below from his apartment window while making some cinematic experiments. A fixed camera records from a low floor of a building the passage of passersby at different climatic moments, until leading to a more complex story where the documentary eye turns to the language of (science) fiction. All stimulated by the off-screen sounds of “War of the Worlds”, the famous radio drama by Orson Welles from 1938 that affected its listeners with mass hysteria, believing Martians were attacking earth. The effect of that famous broadcast, combined with seemingly everyday situations and reinforced by suggestive ambient music, provoke a fascination that shatters the naturalistic atmosphere of the initial proposal.

30 x 30 Considered the father of video art in China, Zhang Peili has been producing incisive, internationally acclaimed works since the 1980s, building a career that ushered in and encompasses the entire history of Chinese video art. Keenly critical of his country’s authoritarian leadership, he sees his work as a form of protest revealing the forces shaping Chinese society and the lives of its citizens. Inspired by the endurance-testing videos of artists like Andy Warhol and Bruce Nauman, Zhang uses mundane, repetitive actions and scenes to demonstrate the absurdity and destructiveness of ritualized behavior and social norms. 30 x 30 (1988), his first video work, is an intentionally excruciating three-hour loop of a pair of gloved hands shattering a mirror, then piecing it back together—an acerbic critique of the rage for watching television, yet another form of thought-control in China.

Destitute Living Two friends who live in the Qubaibah village Northwest of Al-Quds (Jerusalem) are forced to leave their daily life concerns after the water was cut off from their area two weeks ago by the Israeli occupation closing the feeding line. The two men go on a dangerous journey to an area close to their village and try to reach the water spring captured by the Israeli military occupation.
